Collab blog with Carmen Sanchez! (thatspanishstemgirl@wordpress.com)

-Inspired by Christina Astin on her Scientific Writing session where she told us in pairs to write a 10 minute blog post on someone who really inspired us this week at Outbox Incubator. This will also be my friend Carmen's first blog post, please give her new blog a look see!

“When you start a business, people buy into emotions, not the product.” This is what Jeremy Waite said in the afternoon session on Tuesday this week. Who knew that a talk at the Outbox House about Marketing and Strategies and how to promote your business idea would have been so exciting?

Giving us insights into the 70:20:10 model for successful businesses when implementing products into the market, Jeremy inspired us all with his words of wisdom. Following this he introduced the One Sentence Business Model. This was a particular phrase that is structured like

                “ I’m going to do……to make……better                                                                                           which is worth……and is measured by…..”.

For all of us budding female entrepreneurs who know next to nothing about business, this was like a pot of gold at the end of the rainbow.

Alongside his business structures there was also an exercise on how to give a PechaKucha presentation where 20 slides are presented with each slide only being shown for 20 seconds. Not only was it very hard but we learned that the people on TedTalks would practice their, say, 20 minute speeches for over 100-200 hours! Whilst I'm a firm believer of "practice makes perfect", I have to admit that perhaps more times than I'd like to say, I may have only practiced my pitches/presentations less than 5 times, embarrassingly because I would have probably only written the script a night or two before. Something I definitely wouldn't advise doing! Perhaps I should start thinking more about the TedTalks technique....

Overall Jeremy Waite was an incredible individual to meet and I would definitely recommend his book "From Survival to Significance"  to everyone.

One thing that still resonates inside me that he said was these words,

"Tell stories with your heart and justify it with your head later. "

Thank you Jeremy for your kindness and advice.
