On 9/11 and what we should remember

This blog post is late for when it should have really been published. I felt that my personal views on this could be taken out of proportion and I didn't post it. However, I felt that even after a few days I cannot but express my feelings on this subject.

Today is the memorial day for THE catastrophic event. We all know the one, quite literally, THE One.  THE prime example of exactly why we should all be against terrorists and what they believe in.

9/11 was a tragedy, it was really sad and terrible and I can't imagine being one of the families who got affected. I was only 3 years old when it happened but I can still remember the chaos and shock felt by the whole world which still resonates till this day. I still tear up and choke back tears when I see video footage of the event on social media. Honestly it's right that it's remembered to this day as one of the ghastly things that terrorists have done. People were JUMPING OUT of the buildings because they felt that that was better than get suffocated in fires and get crushed by falling masonry. What must the families of those who died have gone through when they saw those videos? What must have gone through the minds of those who were working in the Twin Towers when they felt the building rock? I would have been terrified. I don't know what I would've done. I don't think any of us would WANT to know what we'd have done in the same situation.

Those terrorists who hijacked the planes were affiliated with a terrorist group. An extremist group of Muslims. America (understandably) decided to take a vengeance. But what about the thousands of civilian Aghans and Pakistanis etc who have died because of America's vengeance? Trying to stop extremists of any kind from killing everyone who doesn't follow their belief is fair and should happen to protect the world (and a good thing it's happening so we can all sleep safer in our beds) but what of the women and children who were killed in the crossfires? Would you have called them terrorists too just because they were Muslim? Who lays wreaths for them and cries for their lost loved ones and for their mourning families? Why don't we have parades to remember the innocent civilians and peacekeepers who have died in the Middle East as a consequence to 9/11? Just because it isn't happening over here doesn't mean it isn't happening.

9/11 was a tragedy. End of. Fact accepted. The fact that we still don't fully recognize that mass murders happen in other countries when we're still mourning the past is absurd.

The death toll caused by the terrorists on 9/11 is larger than those who died in New York. Remember the others.

Believe in EQUALITY. Believe in LOVE. Believe in Peace.
