First blogpost?!
Hi all,
To introduce myself I'm Ellie, I'm 18 and going to University this year. I'm a bit nervous to be studying Electronic and Computer Engineering because I think I'll be the only girl but heck, why not? Stand out and be different. I thought it would be a good idea to document my journey into STEM through this blog so I could share my story with you all.
Before I really get started into this blog I'd just like to give thanks to an organisation called Stemettes. They're an organisation who promote females in STEM and they are really the reason why I've developed a love and admiration for STEM. Through their mentoring programme "Student to Stemette" I've gained a mentor. Following this I was selected by Stemettes to be 1 of 5 girls from the UK to go to the Grace Hopper Conference 2014 in Phoenix, Arizona which was an extraordinary experience for a 17 year old. Through Stemettes I was also on BBC Radio1 Newsbeat to talk about the introduction of Computer Science and now their Incubation programme "Outbox" (where we're all being taught how to Think Outside of The Box) is the whole reason why I'm starting this blog.
Thank you Stemettes. Without you I would still be a very confused teenager who thought STEM was just an emphasised flower stalk.
